Teen Conservatory - "She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms"
August 3 - 15
M-F (Week 1) M-S (Week 2)
This program is open by audition only. Please visit for more information. She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms will be rehearsed and performed over Zoom. We will meet daily as a group for 2 weeks to rehearse scenes. The cast will also have private sessions with the director to discuss and design your "set", costumes, and props. This will culminate in a live performance broadcast to viewers.
I never thought about the impact a pandemic could have on live theater. It just simply never occurred to me that we might live in a world where what we love would be so dangerous. At first, I wanted nothing to do with online productions. I like what I do and that's how I want to do it. Then I read the script for She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms. Never have I so clearly identified with a story. While the trauma that spurs this story forward is very different than what we are all going through right now, it really struck a chord with me. Agnes, our heroine, didn't see her tragedy coming. She is completely blindsided by how it changes her life and at first responds much like I did: stubbornly. Now, I am so excited to tackle this new form of theater. To figure out how to have chemistry and energy with actors through a screen will be an enormous challenge, but one we are all up to. We will be doing a combination of live performing, and recorded segments to create a unique experience for our audience. I can't wait to see what we all come up with together!
I would like each actor to record a 1 minute monologue (comic or dramatic) and also record themselves reading and answering the following questions:
How do you think performing virtually will effect your acting?
Is there anything you are excited about that is unique to a virtual theater experience?
Is there anything that makes you nervous or hesitant about this experience, and if so what?
Have you ever played Dungeons and Dragons? If so, talk about your experience. (This is not qualifying or disqualifying for any role, I'm just interested in everyone's experience with the source material)
