Riding the Rails: 2026 Homeschool Musical Theatre Project
A New Musical of Courage in the Great Depression

Our Homeschool Musical Theatre Project offers a dynamic, collaborative education in singing, acting, and movement while working toward a fully staged production on the Main Stage.

This semester, students will explore Riding the Rails, an original musical set during the Great Depression. Inspired by the real stories of young people who traveled America by hopping freight trains, this production blends performance with history in a meaningful, hands-on way.

Students will:

-Build skills in acting, singing, and ensemble movement
-Explore historical context through guided research and discussion
-Contribute to dramaturgy and design elements of the production
-Develop confidence, collaboration, and storytelling skills
-Learn theatrical terminology, etiquette, and rehearsal discipline

We welcome all levels of experience, from first-timers to seasoned performers. This project is ideal for homeschool students who enjoy creative, interdisciplinary learning and working as part of an ensemble.

Casting & Commitment

Everyone who registers and completes the audition/casting process will receive a role, unless rehearsal/performance conflicts make participation impossible.

The audition process (after the first class) will be low-pressure and welcoming, especially for students new to theatre.

Students should only register if they can attend all performances and ideally miss no more than 1 rehearsal.
